Naturally Mined Mica Powder for Soap

The term “mica” is a Latin word which means “to glitter”. Mica is mined from the earth’s natural minerals which are then purified and pulverized into a fine powder which is then used for a dozen numbers of different applications. Such as mica powder for soap, colorful candle making, cosmetic products, home crafts, lip care products, etc. The minerals, from which the mica is mined, have a fragile and crystalline structured layer that gives it a glittering or metallic look. Most of the mica used for soap making are more complex compared to just a powdered mineral particles. Considerably, mica powders are coated with a layer of either iron oxide or titanium dioxide giving the powdered particles more multi-layered and complex color. It is lately then combined with the pigments to give color to the soap.

Micas glittering exterior is most notice when used as a colorant in crystal-clear soap where light surpassing from the soap reflects the mica plates in it. While used in cold process soap, the effect is much refined because the mica powder for soap adds the sparkle and the color for the attractive appearance of the soap. Though the mica powder doesn’t dissolve in the liquid but remains up in the air, the powder doesn’t migrate through the soap which indicates that the soap designs will have well-defined clean lines. Such as, pink will not blend into yellow and form a red color like the dyes tend to do.
Today, there two pigments of mica powder for soap are used – one is ultramarines and other is oxides, both working tremendously well in a hot process, cold process, and room temperature methods for making soap. With the increasing harmful impurities in earth’s mineral, the pigments are now formed in a laboratory under the strict guidelines. While using the mica pigments (ultramarines or oxides) in soap making, it is recommended to mix the soap colorants with some oil or liquid glycerin first. It is also important to mix the pigments properly to avoid pigment clump and dark freckles of color.
